Three studies of women's heads may date from after the marriage of Beatrice Whistler (1857-1896) and Whistler in August 1888.
The size and make of the copper plate (which is the same as A French Street 405, Beatrice Whistler painting from a window, Bourges 399, Bird Shop - Seven Dials 384, Baby Pettigrew 374, The Fan 375, Château de Bridoré 409 and Café Luxembourg 436), as well as the technique, and the form of the butterfly signature, suggest this date.
