Print note:There is a scraped or uninked spot at lower right near the platemark. Although Lochnan discusses this as a drypoint, there is considerable etched work on the head as well as the etched outlines and some shading on body and cello. The plate has a distinct bevel; Whistler reused a plate etched by a West Point classmate, hence the remnants of an earlier subject on the lower third and upper right of the image (see Kennedy entry).
