After the Sale, Clothes Exchange, Houndsditch dates from 1887. This date is consistent with the butterfly signature.
It is the same size as several other etchings dating from 1887. These included other London subjects (i.e.
Melon Shop, Houndsditch 355, Nut Shop, St James's Place, Houndsditch 356), and
Jubilee plates (i.e. Troopships 307).
However, it could have dated from early 1888, or at least been printed in 1888. It was first recorded as sold on 29 June 1888. 1
