Antony's print shop, Rue de Seine dates from between 1894 and 1900. It was first exhibited in Chicago in 1900 (). 1

1: Chicago 1900 (cat. no. 271).

It is one of a group of copper plates bearing the stamp of 'C. SERVANT / PLANEUR / 45, B DES GDS AUGUSTINS' and dating from the 1890s.
Edward Guthrie Kennedy (1849-1932) thought Whistler had etchings of Paris started - but not finished - by 1897. He wrote to Whistler on 11 November 1897: 'It is time to finish the etchings of Paris now, so as to make some noise. Tell me what is going on, "busy" is somewhat vague.' 2 Whistler was too 'busy' to reply!

2: GUW #07292.

Other Paris shop-fronts and scenes etched during this period include Greengrocer's Shop, Paris 471, Newspaper-Stall, Rue de Seine 474, Confections pour Dames 475, Carpet Menders, Paris 480, Mme Pelletier, Blanchisserie, Paris 481, Marchand de Meubles, Rue du Four 482, Boulevard Poissonière, Paris 483 and Café Corazza, Paris 484.
