DESCRIPTION

A clock-tower topped by a flag and surrounded by scaffolding rises behind the roofs of houses on a hill. In front is a street that bends to the left, bordered by two-storey houses with dormer windows. In the street are pedestrians, a chaise, a horse and cart, and in the foreground at right, a hand-barrow.

SITE

The Tour Saint Antoine is a Renaissance belfry, built between 1529 and 1575, and is 52 metres high. It serves as the town clock for Loches, a town on the river Loire, in the Indre-et-Loire department of central France. Armand Queroy, Vue de Loches, shows the Tour St Antoine, Loches without scaffolding. 5
