The copper plate of The Little Cloak bears the maker's oval stamp: 'HUGHES & KIMBER (LIMITED) / MANUFACTURERS / LONDON E.C.' It is among Whistler's smallest plates, the same size as Little Maunder's [273] and close in size to Dieppe [251] and Little Chelsea (Memorial) [315].
It remained in Whistler's studio at his death and was given to the University of Glasgow by Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958) in 1935. It was cancelled posthumously with a diagonal line across the lower left corner.
