TECHNIQUE

The plate for The Bucking Horse, Wild West was etched, with just a few drypoint touches added on and below the figures at lower right.

PRINTING

The first proof was printed in black ink on cream laid paper (Graphic with a link to impression #K3150102), and another in black ink on a sheet of cream laid paper taken from a book, with the binding holes visible along the left edge (Graphic with a link to impression #K3150108). Although most are trimmed to the platemark and signed with a butterfly and 'imp.' on the tab to show that Whistler had printed them, one - the last mentioned - is signed in this manner but not trimmed (Graphic with a link to impression #K3150108). Several impressions are in dark brown ink on ivory laid paper (i.e. Graphic with a link to impression #K3150103, Graphic with a link to impression #K3150104, Graphic with a link to impression #K3150105, Graphic with a link to impression #K3150110).
