The copper plate bears the maker's oval stamp: 'HUGHES & KIMBER (LIMITED) / MANUFACTURERS / LONDON E.C.' It is close in size to two other plates used in Venice, Salute Dawn [207], and Old Women [234]. This means it was brought from London to fulfil the Fine Art Society commission, but eventually not incorporated in the set published by them in 1880.
It was published by Messrs Dowdeswell and Thibaudeau with A Set of Twenty-six Etchings (the 'Second Venice Set') in 1886. It was cancelled in 1887 with crossed diagonal and zig-zag lines.
The plate is now in the Art Institute of Chicago. 6
