The composition is complete.

State 2

The right side of the cupola and left side of the porch roof on San Giorgio are partly burnished out, along with some details of the façade and dark shading above the deck of the steamship in front of it.

State 3

Impression: K2010301
Several horizontal bands of fine drypoint shading are added to the sky at centre.

State 4

Impression: K2010308
The right side and bottom edge of San Giorgio's cupola are redrawn.
The bands of fine shading on the sky are difficult to see on some impressions.
Published in this and the following state by Messrs Dowdeswell and Thibaudeau with the Twenty-six Etchings (the 'Second Venice Set') in 1886.

Signed with a butterfly at lower left.
The left side of San Giorgio's porch roof is redrawn, along with details of the façade and objects on the deck of the steamship; the bands of fine shading on the sky have worn away.
