SALES & COLLECTORS

No sales are recorded, except of impressions from the cancelled plate in the 1879 edition. Surviving impressions are almost all from, or still in, albums of the cancelled set. Several sets may have come on the market in 1887, and certainly sets were acquired then by Thomas Glen Arthur (1858-1907) (Graphic with a link to impression #K0830211) and by the British Museum (Graphic with a link to impression #K0830203). Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) bought a set from Knoedler & Co. in 1893 (Graphic with a link to impression #K0830201). Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958) acquired two impressions, probably at the same time as the copper plate (Graphic with a link to impression #K0830202 and Graphic with a link to impression #K0830208), the latter being stuck on the envelope containing the plate).
