TECHNIQUE

An unfinished sketch in drypoint.

PRINTING

No impression from the uncancelled plate is known. It was published in an album of Cancelled Plates ('Cancelled Set') by The Fine Art Society, London, 1879. Cancelled impressions are all printed in black ink, on papers including cream wove (Graphic with a link to impression #K0790201); Strasbourg Lily watermarked laid (Graphic with a link to impression #K0790211) and cream 'modern' (post-1800) laid paper with Van Gelder watermark (Graphic with a link to impression #K0790202). One (Graphic with a link to impression #K0790203) is cut from the same sheet of ivory laid Van Gelder paper as three other cancelled etchings (Graphic with a link to impression #K0940303, Graphic with a link to impression #K0940303, Graphic with a link to impression #K1510203, Graphic with a link to impression #K1520403).
