After the Sale, Clothes Exchange, Houndsditch dates from 1887. This date is consistent with the butterfly signature.
It is the same size as several other etchings dating from 1887. These included other London subjects (i.e. Melon Shop, Houndsditch [355], Nut Shop, St James's Place, Houndsditch [356]), and Jubilee plates (i.e. Troopships [307]).

However, it could have dated from early 1888, or at least been printed in 1888. It was first recorded as sold on 29 June 1888. 1
