Long Venice dates from 1880. Whistler arrived in Venice in September 1879. He was active there from October 1879 to October 1880 and was back in London in November 1880. This was probably drawn during the summer of 1880.
Other panoramic views done at this time include The Little Venice [238] and Nocturne [222].
It was published by Messrs Dowdeswell and Thibaudeau with A Set of Twenty-six Etchings (the 'Second Venice Set') in 1886.
