Impressions taken from this plate  (1)
Woman sleeping in a chair may date from 1888 or the early 1890s.
Copper plates of a similar size and make (including Stéphane Mallarmé [462], Market Women: Turkeys [424], Theatre, Loches [418], Hôtel de la Promenade, Loches [415] and Mrs J. Birnie Philip [479]), date from between 1887 and 1896.
The technique and the form of the butterfly signature suggest a date from 1888 or slightly later - definitely after Whistler's marriage. The costume, with slightly full sleeves, suggests a similar date, possibly the early 1890s. However, the details are not sufficiently clear to make this certain.
