Three studies of women's heads may date from after the marriage of Beatrice Whistler (1857-1896) and Whistler in August 1888.
The size and make of the copper plate (which is the same as A French Street , Beatrice Whistler painting from a window, Bourges , Bird Shop - Seven Dials , Baby Pettigrew , The Fan , Château de Bridoré and Café Luxembourg ), as well as the technique, and the form of the butterfly signature, suggest this date.
