PRINTING

The only impressions known were printed after Whistler's death. They were printed in 1931 at the request of Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958) by Nathaniel Sparks (1880-1956), who wrote 'It was purely an experimental plate & possessed great character & charm. I took two proofs of this plate on his own plate paper - ' 10 These two impressions were printed in warm black ink on wove paper. The result is very dark indeed and the attempt to print from the plate was abandoned.
