TECHNIQUE

It is pure etching. The plate appears to have been damaged and both impressions show extensive light, dense, granular foul biting (Graphic with a link to impression #K4260103, Graphic with a link to impression #K4260104).

PRINTING

Only two impressions of The Little Terrace, Luxembourg Gardens, No. 2 have been located (Graphic with a link to impression #K4260103, Graphic with a link to impression #K4260104). Both were printed in black ink on ivory laid paper with a partial 'PRO PATRIA' watermark. Both were trimmed to the platemark but only one - the one kept by Whistler (Graphic with a link to impression #K4260104) - was signed on a tab with the butterfly and 'imp.' to show that he had printed it.
