The copper plate has no maker's stamp. However, it is similar in size to several plates dating from 1888 including Courtyard, Rue P. L. Courier, Tours [391], Doorway, Stables - Loches [416], Rue des Bons Enfants, Tours [392], Children, Amboise [432], Market Women, Loches [423], Tour Saint Antoine, Loches [414], and Windows, Bourges [398].
It was in Whistler's studio at his death and was given to the University of Glasgow by Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958). It was cancelled posthumously with a diagonal line across the lower left corner.
