TECHNIQUE

Given the sketch-like quality of Perambulator, King's Road, along with its small size, Whistler probably drew the subject on the prepared copper plate on the spot and then completed the etching process back in the studio.

PRINTING

Only two impressions have been located (Graphic with a link to impression #K2780102, Graphic with a link to impression #K2780105). Both were printed in black ink on laid paper with a partial watermark, probably 'PRO PATRIA'. One sheet has a red edge, indicating it was taken from a book (Graphic with a link to impression #K2780102). Both are trimmed to the platemark and signed on the tab with a butterfly and 'imp.' to show that Whistler had printed them.
