PRINTING

Early impressions were printed in black ink on laid paper watermarked with, for instance, 'B/TH' in a decorative circle (Graphic with a link to impression #K1550104); a coat of arms (Graphic with a link to impression #K1550111); 'DE ERVEN D. BLAUW' (Graphic with a link to impression #K1550105); Arms of Amsterdam (Graphic with a link to impression #K1550106, Graphic with a link to impression #K1550107, Graphic with a link to impression #K1550109, Graphic with a link to impression #K1550103). In some cases the ink looks greyish, possibly because the lines are so lightly drawn (i.e.Graphic with a link to impression #K1550102). At times the ink appears dark brown, possibly because it is on a pale buff paper (i.e. Graphic with a link to impression #K1550202), producing a misty, atmospheric effect.
A few later impressions are in brown ink, one, for instance, on a very thin 'antique' (pre-1800) laid paper (Graphic with a link to impression #K1550301) and another on an ivory laid paper with 'DHK' countermark (Graphic with a link to impression #K1550402).
