Etching: PK071_01 (plate)
The copper plate bears the stamp of Whistler's favourite supplier, 'HUGHES & KIMBER / MANUFACTURERS/ RED LION SQUARE / FLEET STREET / LONDON'. The same stamp appears on two other etchings of the Thames in 1861, The Little Pool [79] and Old Hungerford Bridge [76].
Impression: K0710602
The plate was cancelled with a central vertical and several ruled horizontal lines. A set of cancelled impressions of the 'Thames Set' was printed (Graphic with a link to impression #K0710602, Graphic with a link to impression #K0710601).
The cancelled copper plate was purchased in 1896 by Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919), and bequeathed by him to the Freer Gallery of Art in 1919. 11
