STATE

Four states are known.

State 1

Impression: K0330102
There is no signature or inscription.
The lady's hands are not shaded, and the fingers of Seymour Haden's right hand (holding the newspaper at left) are undefined.
Impressions of this state vary considerably in the amount of ink tone and wiping. Some are extremely dark, as in the example reproduced below.
Impression: K0330113

State 2

Impression: K0330204
Diagonal lines shade the lady's hands; more shading is added on her hair and dress, with numerous folds added at the back of the skirt; the fingers of Haden's right hand are defined; there is more close shading all over the right background and on the floor to right of Haden, particularly under the table; the area behind Traer and the lamp is almost black; light curving lines are added on the shading of the tablecloth.

State 3

Impression: K0330222
Several slanting lines are added on the skirt to lower right of the lady's knee.

State 4

Impression: K0330223
A few slanting lines are extended on the skirt to lower right of the lady's knee.
