bunting, naval review, jubilee, sailing ship, sea, warship.

TITLE

There are several variations on the title, as follows:

'The Gun boat' (1887, Whistler). 2
'H. M. S. Fleet - The Gun boat' (1887, Whistler). 3
'Naval Review No. 1 Gun Boat' (1887/1888, Whistler). 4
'The Turret Ship' (1887/1888, Whistler). 5
'Jubilee - Naval - Review - No. 1. Gun Boat ' (1890/1892, Beatrice Whistler (1857-1896)). 6
'Turret Ship' (1904, Boston). 7
'La Canonnière No. 2 - (Gunboat no. 2 on the Turret-Ship)' (1905, Paris). 8
'The Turret-Ship' (1909, Howard Mansfield (1849-1938)). 9

The heavy guns were mounted on turrets in the latest warships in Her Majesty's fleet. The original title 'The Gun boat' might imply that what was shown was a small boat whereas 'The Turret Ship' emphasizes the powerful warships. Most cataloguers opted for the latter title.
