J. Becquet, sculptor probably dates from 1859. Whistler was in Paris in 1859 and etched several similar portraits including C. L. Drouet, Sculptor [35] and Z. Astruc, Editor of 'L'Artiste' [36], which are both dated '1859' on the plate.
The first recorded sale was by Francis Seymour Haden, Sr (1818-1910) to South Kensington Museum on 1 January 1861 (Graphic with a link to impression #K0520107). 1

It was published as 'The Fiddler' in 1871 as part of A Series of Sixteen Etchings of Scenes on The Thames and other Subjects (the 'Thames Set').
