Joshua Hutchinson Hutchinson (ca 1829 - d. 1891); sold at Sotheby's, London, 3 March 1892 (lot 116/117), bought by Deprez. Bought from Hermann Wunderlich & Co., New York, (Wunderlich receipt May 1892), by Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919), Detroit, MI, May 1892; bequeathed to the Freer Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, 1919.

Print note:Strong drypoint lines with burr; flecks and spots of 'foul biting' apparent on 1898.309 are not visible on this impression; partly the result of fibrous paper? It is most likely an earlier impression than 1898.309, because the acid/corrosion spots do print clearly in the impression of state II--1898.310
