Provenance:Plate bequeathed by Whistler to his executrix, Miss Rosalind Birnie Philip, 1903; printed for her by Nathaniel Sparks (1880-1956), Bristol, 1931; this impression bequeathed by her to the University of Glasgow, 1958.

Print tone:There is a medium print tone that is particularly pronounced at the upper right and also in the doorway. The door itself and the seated figure with a child are wiped fairly cleanly.  
Note on foul biting:There is an area of foul biting near the lower edge and a mark from the grip of a tool at the right side. There is pitting around the door and lower doorway.  
Print note:There are scratchy wipe marks particularly at the upper right. The ink is showing through on the verso. There are etched lines at the foot of the woman with a baby that have partially broken down having been affected badly by pitting.
