Richard Beavis was a history painter.
Life:
The ouput of Richard Beavis of Campden-Hill Square, Kensington, included the paintings Dunnottar Castle (1863), Pilgrims en route to Mecca (1878) and The Halt of Prince Charles Edward Stewart after the Battle of Culloden (1881). He was a member of the Royal Watercolour Society and the Arts Club, London, from 1867-1895.
On 7 November 1893 Beavis's youngest son, Claude Bertram Walbond ('Bertie'), a member of the 16th Queen's Lancers, died in Lucknow, India aged 21. Beavis himself died 3 years later.
Beavis also formed a significant art collection that included prints by contemporary artists such as Whistler. The collection was sold at Christie, Manson and Woods in February 1897.
